If you are using Outlook and want to backup the messages folder locally, you can automatically import/export the items to a .pst file
Following are the steps:
- Select File > Open & Export > Import/Export

- A new window is opened showing actions to perform whether export or import. Select Export to a file and click Next

- Select Outlook data file to export the file and click Next

- Select the mail folder you want to back up and select Next.

- Choose a name and location for backup file by click on Browse. You can choose the options from options
